Getting carried away with renovations can create interesting marks.
Walls can tell many stories. The layers of paint act like skin. Every scuff, crack, blemish, mark, hole, bump, and texture has a narrative.
These images are a response to the book, “The Story of the Eye” by Georges Bataille.
After reading a few reviews about this book it finally makes sense. The interesting thing about it is it CAN be explained in words but it will not do it justice. Bataille perfectly captures the essence of human desires, mainly death and sex where he presents them as one of the same. There are some reoccurring objects in this book that are constantly appearing together; eyes, testicles and eggs.
I wanted to create something in response to this book so I am working on a series of prints. These are works in progress.
